Culture is one of the leading factors of trend discovery, so what better place to search than the Malcolm Shabazz Harlem Market. This hidden gem, located in uptown New York City, comes alive with music, dance, and crafts. But note the outdoor marketplace isn’t for the timid, the moment you stop to look at an item the seller will begin to bargain prices, and “no thank you” is never an option, so come prepared to negotiate and/or give a firm no. After searching through hundreds of pieces, I noticed three that were spot on for summer style.
1. Beaded Statements
Many Indian and African cultures are known for their marvelous handcrafted beading, but this season they’ve taken it up a notch by creating breathtaking statement pieces.
A killer accessory is always a conversation starter and can take a plain outfit to a new level. Try incorporating elaborately beaded statement pieces with a white V-neck and white denim and see how alive the outfit will become.
2. Glamorized Tie Dye
This 70's trend always makes a recurrence in summer items, but this added embroidered detailing grabbed my attention. The intricate statement adds a luxuriousness to this casual look.
I love this partnering because I'm always a firm believer of taking a plain outfit to the next level. Next time you bring out your tie dye top try paring it with a glamour piece, such as a sparkle skirt or baroque accessories and go from blending in to standing out. 3. Bucket List
Lastly, we can't forget the forever clutch bucket hat. In this extremely hot summer weather, the bucket hat is a saver from the scorching sun. This piece can come in handy on a sunny day or even a horrible hair day.
Now what's the best way to wear this basic piece? In a trend overload of course! Wear your hair down, bandana around your neck, denim jumpsuit unbuttoned, and a sneaker (I'm thinking a great Puma), straight Run DMC style. I guarantee you will be the coolest person in the room if you master this look.
